Admission is open for Research Programmes (Ph.D/M.Sc Engg); Course Programmes (M.E./ M.Tech/ M.Des/ M.Mgt); Integrated Ph.D Programmes; and External Registration Programmes (Ph.D only) at the Institute

Candidates who are yet to complete their qualifying examinations and expect to complete all the requirements for the degree (including all examinations, project dissertation, viva-voce etc) before 31st July, 2013 are also eligible to apply

Research Programmes (Ph.D/M.Sc Engg)
Ph.D in Science: Astronomy and Astrophysics, Biochemistry, Ecological Sciences, High Energy Physics, Inorganic and Physical Chemistry, Materials Research, Mathematics, Microbiology and Cell Biology, Molecular Biophysics, Molecular Reproduction, Development and Genetics, Neuroscience, Organic Chemistry, Physics, Solid State and Structural Chemistry
M.Sc (Engg)/Ph.D in Engineering: Aerospace Engineering, Atmospheric and Oceanic Sciences, Chemical Engineering, Civil Engineering, Computer Science and Automation, Earth Sciences, Electrical Communication Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Electronic Systems Engineering, Instrumentation, Management Studies, Materials Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Nanoscience and Engineering, Product Design and Manufacturing, Sustainable Technologies, Supercomputer Education and Research
Ph.D in Interdisciplinary Areas: Bioengineering, Energy, Mathematical Sciences, Nanoscience and Engineering
Eligibility: Candidates possessing a minimum of 2nd class in the following degrees are eligible to apply
Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in an appropriate field of Engineering/Technology/Architecture/ Medicine/ Agriculture/ Pharmacy/ Veterinary Sciences; or Master’s degree in Science in an appropriate field including Biotechnology, or Master’s in Economics, Geography, Social Work, Psychology, Management, Mathematics, Statistics, Commerce, Operations Research, Computer Science Application as applicable to the respective departments
Qualifying in one of the following appropriate tests (with validity as on 01st August, 2013) is mandatory
CSIR-UGC NET for JRF; or UGC-NET for JRF; or DBT JRF; or ICMR JRF; or JEST 2013; or NBHM 2013; or IISc Entrance Test 2013; or GATE 2012/2013 or INSPIRE Fellows (for Ph.D)
Qualifying in these tests is not mandatory but desirable for candidates who possess a Master’s degree in Engineering/Technology/ M.Sc (Engg) or MS or MBA (post B.E./B.Tech) and wish to apply for the departments in the Engineering Faculty
IISc entrance test is conducted in Biological Sciences, Chemistry, Ecological Sciences, and Materials Science subjects
The 2013 IISc entrance test shall be last entrance test
From 2014 admissions will be based on qualifying in one of the national entrance tests
Course Programmes (M.E./M.Tech/M.Des/M.Mgt)
Master of Engineering (M.E.): Aerospace Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Civil Engineering, Computer Science and Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Materials Engineering, Microelectronic Systems, Signal Processing, Systems Science and Automation, Telecommunication Engineering
Eligibility: Candidates possessing a minimum of second class in bachelor’s degree in appropriate field of Engineering/Technology or equivalent degree with valid GATE score are eligible to apply
Selection is based on valid GATE score only
Master of Technology (M.Tech): Climate Science, Computational Science, Earth Science, Electronic Systems Engineering, Instrumentation, Transportation and Infrastructure Engineering
Eligibility: Candidates possessing a minimum of 2nd class in the following qualifying degree with valid GATE score are eligible to apply
Bachelor’s degree in an appropriate field of Engineering/Technology; or Master’s degree in Science, Physical Sciences, Mathematics, Statistics, Geology, Instrumentation, Electronics or Master’s in Computer Application as applicable to the respective departments.
Selection for Climate Science, Computational Science, Earth Science, Electronic Systems Engineering is based on an aptitude test and interview subsequent to short listing based on valid GATE score and for Instrumentation, Transportation and Infrastructure Engineering based on valid GATE score only
Master of Design (M.Des): Product Design and Engineering
Eligibility: Candidates possessing a minimum of second class in bachelor’s degree in Engineering/ Technology/ Design/ Architecture with valid GATE/CEED scores are eligible to apply
Selection is based on a Design Aptitude Test and interview subsequent to short-listing based on valid GATE/CEED scores
Master of Management (M.Mgt)
IISc uses CAT scores for short listing the candidates for M.Mgt programme
IIMs have no role either in the selection process or in the conduct of the programme
Eligibility: Candidates possessing a minimum of first class in bachelor’s degree in Engineering/ Technology or equivalent degree with a valid GATE/CAT/GMAT scores are eligible to apply
Selection is based on a group discussion and interview subsequent to short listing based on valid GATE/ CAT/GMAT scores
Ph.D (Integrated) Programmes: Biological Sciences, Chemical Sciences, Physical Sciences, Mathematical Sciences
Eligibility: Candidates possessing a minimum of 1st class in B.Sc or equivalent degree in Physical, Mathematical, Chemical, Biological Sciences (including bachelor’s degree in Pharmacy, Veterinary and Agricultural Sciences) are eligible to apply to an appropriate disciplines
B.E./B.Tech degree holders are eligible to apply only to Mathematical Sciences discipline
The short listing of candidates for interview is based on the performance in JAM-2013
External Registration Programmes (ERP)
ERP is offered for working professionals from R&D Organizations/Industries and Faculty members from Engineering, Agricultural, Pharmaceutical, Veterinary, Medical Colleges/Universities, recognized by the appropriate government agencies
The candidates must be officially sponsored by their employing organization
Ph.D in Science: All the Science departments except Neuroscience, High Energy Physics, Solid State and Structural Chemistry
Ph.D in Engineering: All the Engineering departments
Eligibility: Qualifications remain the same as for the regular candidates
Further, the candidates should have two years of continuous service in a permanent position in the present organisation
Age: Not higher than 40 years as on 01st April, 2013
Desirable: Qualifying in one of the tests; IISc Entrance Test, CSIR-UGC NET for JRF, UGC-NET for JRF, DBT JRF, ICMR JRF, GATE, NBHM, etc
Selection will be based on candidate’s performance in the interview to be conducted at IISc
